- ➤ OU Student Media hired veteran newsroom leader Will Pry as its innovator-in-residence for the spring semester, where he will mentor students in Copeland Hall. He will offer in-person coaching + a workshop series as he commutes weekly from North Texas. OU Daily
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ OU football’s transfer portal opened Jan. 2 and remains open until Jan. 16. Several players like Taylor Tatum and Markus Strong plan to leave plus key transfers including Colorado State’s Lloyd Avant and Arkansas’ E’Marion Harris have signed, adding needed depth to the Sooners’ roster. - ➤ Oklahoma committed to adding Colorado State running back Lloyd Avant on Monday (he rushed for 417 yards and five touchdowns in 2025) after he visited the team this past weekend to help fill the running back need. The Oklahoman
- ➤ OU football secured Colorado State transfer tight end Rocky Beers on Monday after he visited OU and Florida State, strengthening a key roster need as the program searches for a new position coach. The Oklahoman
- ➤ OU football landed Oregon transfer defensive back Dakoda Fields on Monday, Jan. 5. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound top 100 recruit with 3 years of eligibility left will boost the Sooners' cornerback unit (per On3). The Oklahoman
- ➤ Oklahoma football added Virginia transfer wide receiver Trell Harris, an All-ACC honoree with strong stats last season, to bolster its offense. Harris visited Norman on Sunday and will have one year of eligibility to contribute to the team. The Oklahoman
- ➤ OU women's basketball team is ranked in the top five for the first time since 2008-09 after wins over Texas A&M and Mississippi State in SEC play on Jan. 5; the Sooners will face No. 18 Ole Miss on Thursday. The Oklahoman
- ➤ OU football landed offensive lineman Caleb Nitta from Western Kentucky via the transfer portal Monday in Norman. Nitta, a former Virginia Tech player with two years of eligibility remaining, visited Norman Sunday and a deal was sealed by coach Brent Venables' team — offering needed depth on the offensive line.
