  • Norman North students raised a total of $160,488.96 on Monday morning during the annual philanthropy week, with funds supporting three individuals + one organization. The SPUD campaign marked a significant milestone in local community fundraising.  The Norman Transcript

  • The Balance, a newspaper produced by women at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, won the Best Debut award at the American Penal Press Contest on Jan. 13 at 5:15 a.m. CT. The paper (launched from an 11-week journalism workshop) is praised for sharing strong community stories.  The Oklahoman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma homeowners can now apply for up to $10,000 from the Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Grant Program to install a storm-resistant fortified roof; the new program — which may lower insurance premiums by up to 42% — began Monday, Jan. 13 statewide.  The Oklahoman

HEALTH NEWS

  • OU’s PRIME program for rural school mental health lost its $5.6 million federal funding in December and is now seeking new funds to keep training counselors, behavior analysts & social workers. Despite the setback, graduates remain working in high-need schools to support students with counseling and behavioral services.  KGOU

  • Ticket purchasing for 2028 Olympics events in Oklahoma City is open. Residents in Oklahoma, Canadian & Cleveland counties can register at Tickets.LA28.org through March 28 for early locals presale access to canoe slalom and softball events, with tickets starting at $28.  The Oklahoman
