Good morning, Norman. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 15th of January.

CULTURE NEWS

  • The sculpture Hazmatt now lounges outside the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Norman-based artists Ken Hall Jr. and Derek Vosten built the 20-foot-tall piece from decommissioned dumpsters using leftover funds from the HHWF Capital Project totaling just over $14,000.  The Norman Transcript
  • The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History invites visitors today to explore two new exhibitions that detail a turning point in dinosaur evolution and the dodo bird's complex history — showcasing its remote island origins and the impact of human encounters.  The Norman Transcript

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Norman Fire Department extinguished a grass fire along northbound Interstate 35 Wednesday morning and issued a county burn ban amid high fire danger. Officials say residents should follow local guidelines as weather conditions may continue to pose risks.  The Norman Transcript
  • Oklahoma voters will decide on State Question 832 in June, which would raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 by 2029 (a move aimed at addressing living wage concerns).  The Oklahoman
  • Norman drivers can flash their headlights to warn of hidden police and road hazards, as state law permits such actions but disallows continuous or colored flashes by unauthorized vehicles (only emergency vehicles, buses, and road service vehicles may use them), and requires proper headlight use after sunset.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Thunder beat the Spurs 119-98 at Paycom Center by limiting Victor Wembanyama to 17 points and seven rebounds. Home fans booed him heavily, and his rivalry with Chet Holmgren added extra tension to the win.  The Oklahoman
