  • The ongoing crisis in Iran has left Oklahoma’s Iranian neighbors worried about family abroad — prompting local employers, faith groups and community organizations to step up mental health and outreach support.  The Oklahoman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OU SGA held its inauguration on Wednesday at Oklahoma Memorial Union by installing Mercer Martin as president and Josephine Nicholson as vice president. They campaigned on the SPIRIT platform (strengthening connections, promoting traditions, integrating resources, reinforcing fellowship, initiating partnerships) to enhance the campus experience.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norman City Council is reviewing an $8-million proposal for a permanent shelter (three-acre site on the Griffin Memorial Hospital campus off Reed Avenue) that would provide beds for 76 men, 44 women, and family apartments; a community meeting is scheduled for Jan. 31 at Alameda Church of Christ.  KGOU
  • The Southwest Power Pool expedited the review process for large electricity projects such as AI-driven data centers after receiving FERC approval last week—its new HILL framework sets a 90-day review period to balance grid needs and support economic growth.  KGOU
  • Oklahoma utilities and transportation crews are ready for a severe winter storm that will hit Friday and continue through the weekend. OG&E is stockpiling fuel while PSO and state agencies have pre-treated roadways — urging residents to prepare emergency kits.  The Oklahoman

  • A proposed condo development in South Greek will include eight buildings with 108 bedrooms and is set to begin construction this summer if rezoning is approved. A discussion for nearby residents is scheduled for today at 6 p.m. (225 N. Webster Ave).  OU Daily

  • The OU women’s basketball team lost three straight games, including a home loss to Ole Miss, and will face South Carolina today at Lloyd Noble Center—Coach Jennie Baranczyk said the team must improve to keep a top-four seed in play.  The Oklahoman
  • OKC Thunder ended a four-game road trip with a 122 to 102 win over the Bucks on Wednesday, powered by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 40-point performance. The team overcame injuries (including Ajay Mitchell's hip contusion) with strong defense from Lu Dort and timely steals by Cason Wallace.  The Oklahoman
