ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Local musician Bob (Space Dog) Moore died in a house fire at his Slaughterville home, leaving behind a legacy as a Campus Corner staple and mentor to Norman artists, according to Mayor Stephen Tyler Holman’s Facebook post.  OU Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • KGOU program director Jim Johnson (host of The Weekend Blues for 30 years) received the Governor’s Media in the Arts Award from the Oklahoma Arts Council during the Governor’s Arts Awards ceremony on Monday, Jan. 26.  KGOU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OU announced eleven spring commencement ceremonies from May 12 to 17 at the Lloyd Noble Center, with some events in Tulsa and other designated venues. Each ceremony will last around two hours, doors will open 1.5 hours early, and events will be live-streamed the week of the ceremonies.  OU Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • OKC Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell was selected to join the NBA Rising Stars Game scheduled for Feb. 13 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Mitchell, averaging 14.1 points, 3.7 assists & 3.5 rebounds as a sophomore, will represent OKC in a mini-tournament with 21 NBA rookies and sophomores.  The Oklahoman
  • The University will introduce new athletic director Roger Denny tomorrow at a formal ceremony in Norman—he brings legal and sports operations experience to help revitalize the football program amid shifts in college athletics.  The Oklahoman
  • The USA TODAY Sports Network preseason All-America softball team was revealed yesterday, naming Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady as Pitcher of the Year and Nebraska’s Jordy (Bahl) Frahm as Player of the Year, with Oklahoma’s Kai Minor earning Newcomer honors — local stars Kasidi Pickering and Ella Parker also make the list.  The Oklahoman
