CULTURE NEWS

  • Cultivate Exhibition opens today at Firehouse Art Center in Norman with a nature-inspired show featuring a string quartet + a ceiling-scraping sculpture and a curated olfactory experience that highlights creative uses of Oklahoma yards.  The Norman Transcript

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House Common Education Committee approved bills to limit screen time to one hour per day, boost weekly physical education to 150 minutes, and add firearm safety training in public schools. The bills will go to the Education Oversight Committee for further review.  KGOU
  • OU administration met with Graduate Student Senate leaders Tuesday morning to discuss the termination of teaching instructor Mel Curth (after a bill called for transparency) and will share a detailed update at the Senate's Zoom meeting Thursday at 7 p.m.  OU Daily
  • Lawmakers passed two higher education bills Tuesday at the Capitol — focusing on grading standards and support for graduate teaching assistants at state universities.  The Norman Transcript

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State records show that no state lawmaker has filed a bill to restore an annual Bedlam football game after Norman and Stillwater mayors discussed the idea, which they say could boost local economies. OU ended the series after 2023 and now plays non-conference games.  News9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Skip Johnson has refreshed the OU baseball roster by returning opening day starter Cameron Johnson and *adding key transfers* as well as top freshman talent. The Sooners will begin the 2026 season tomorrow, Feb. 13, with games in Arlington and a full slate of matchups through May.  The Oklahoman
  • OU football is expected to hire former Michigan defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan as its new defensive backs coach, replacing Jay Valai who left for the Buffalo Bills (Morgan brings experience from Louisiana and Vanderbilt). The move follows a report by The Oklahoma Breakdown.  The Oklahoman
  • OU football will hold its spring game on April 18 after a one-year pause that saw the Crimson Combine replace the usual Red-White game. Fans in Norman can look forward to player drills and team activities, with more details to be announced soon.  The Oklahoman
