COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yellow Dog Coffee Co. will host a free game night partnering with The Lore to teach cribbage, mahjong, and go Saturday, Feb. 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at its downtown location (the event aims to boost local community connections).  OU Daily
  • This weekend, Norman and OKC host a mix of sports games, live music and art events. Visitors can watch Sooners baseball, basketball and gymnastics & enjoy a candlelit piano session, ballet and game night with tickets available online or free with OU ID.  OU Daily
  • Norman parks will soon have their first recycling bins from a partnership between four Rotary Clubs & the city. Ten bins will be installed this year with five at Rotary Park and five at Legacy Park, each marked with a bronze plaque.  The Norman Transcript

  • Downtown Norman's The Play Pit — an indoor playground for families — began collaborating with Sooner Daiquiri on Feb. 13 to let customers order from the restaurant’s full menu by scanning a QR code, without extra fees; both business owners hope the new partnership will spark more local collaborations.  OU Daily

  • Norman native Christian Kane paid tribute to actor Robert Duvall, who died Feb. 15 at age 95; Kane, who played Duvall’s younger version in Secondhand Lions, recalled a memorable hug at the film’s premiere (his highest honor as a young actor).  The Oklahoman

  • OU IT reported that Canvas New Quizzes are causing the Respondus LockDown Browser to fail at startup for Mac & iPad users, so students are advised to use the Windows version until the issue is fixed.  OU Daily
  • OU parking officials shared plans at a recent campus meeting to expand commuter parking at Jenkins Avenue and upgrade faculty+staff lot gates starting in fall 2026. The changes come as housing updates lead to shifts in parking allocations.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma lawmakers have proposed two bills requiring teen drivers to pass an eighth-grade reading test before getting their license (with exceptions for those on individualized education programs or working over 24 hours weekly); the measure advanced in committee on Feb. 19 and could reinstate a pre-COVID literacy requirement.  The Oklahoman
  • Norman officials announced a burn ban in Cleveland County through March 3 to protect life + property amid ongoing wildfire concerns. The city urged residents to follow safety guidelines while staying alert to changing conditions.  OU Daily
