- ➤ OU administrators and students met at the Capitol on Monday to show legislators how the university supports education and the state economy+ OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. spoke before the Senate about increased need-based aid and scholarships while the 2024 championship softball team was honored with a Senate resolution. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, senators passed Senate Bill 595 to set new rules for county jails—detention facilities must be inspected once a year and have enough staff during checks. The bill, which comes from a deal with the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association and the state Department of Health, now goes to the House for review. KGOU
- ➤ At its regular meeting Tuesday, Norman City Council approved a preliminary plat for the new Norman Groundwater Facility at 4020 E. Tecumseh Rd and passed a resolution to allow temporary housing on lots hit by wildfires. The resolution lets affected residents use mobile homes and travel trailers that meet water, wastewater and power standards—owners must apply for a building permit within a year with fees waived. - ➤ The city is asking for public input on three new designs for the May Avenue bridge at Northwest Expressway after it collapsed in 2016 when a truck hit it. Residents must send their comments by April 25, and construction is set to begin in the first half of 2026 (the intersection has seen 377 crashes over ten years, including one fatality and seven serious injuries).
