ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Oklahoma, Canadian and Cleveland counties can apply for the Wildlife Habitat Grant Program, which offers reimbursement at a rate of $525 per 100 square feet for new pollinator habitats up to 1,000 square feet. Applicants must secure certification from Yard by Yard or Grounds by Grounds—install the required native plants by June 30 to qualify.  The Oklahoman

  • Residents interested in adding a safe room or storm shelter to their homes can register for the SoonerSafe Safe Room Rebate Program—which offers up to $3,000 in rebates and covers up to 75% of the approved cost. Applications are open now with a random drawing and priority for areas impacted by 2024 disaster declarations, and selected homeowners must follow specific installation steps.  The Oklahoman
  • Oklahoma lawmakers limited state and local elections to five a year by passing House Bill 2106—aiming to reduce voter fatigue and save taxpayer money. A related measure to move school board elections to November also passed its chamber, showing broad support for streamlined voting.  KGOU
  • The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday on Oklahoma’s lawsuit challenging an EPA decision over a 2023 smog regulation plan. The case was transferred from the 10th Circuit Court — following the EPA’s rejection of Oklahoma’s proposal — and the court has not yet announced a decision.  KGOU
