CULTURE NEWS

  • The Festival of the Arts 2026 will feature over 30 food vendors serving unique treats from food trucks, stalls & carts from April 23–26. The festival begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday and runs through Sunday with varying hours each day for local food fans to enjoy.  The Oklahoman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Norman Public Schools held an evening board meeting Monday where a board member walked out after electing Dawn Brockman as president and Dirk O’Hara as vice president. The meeting also approved a 10-cent increase for school meals, new principal appointments, and service awards for 72 longtime staff members.  OU Daily
  • After 50 years in Monnet Hall, the Western History Collections reading room will close on May 16 and move to the fifth floor of Bizzell Memorial Library on May 20. The move consolidates access to archival materials on Oklahoma history, Indigenous culture + the American West.  OU Daily
  • The state House passed sweeping changes to public school reading policies Monday, including a requirement for struggling readers to repeat third grade (Senate Bill 1778 passed 87-5 before heading to the Senate for final amendments).  The Norman Transcript

  • Flags remain at half staff on state-owned property today in honor of OHP Trooper Vernon Brake, who died on April 8 when a vehicle crossed an Interstate divider, per Gov. Kevin Stitt's order from April 10 to today — homeowners may choose to fly full flags.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Norman star Keeley Parks (a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year) committed to join OU women's basketball from the transfer portal yesterday after playing one season at Kansas.  The Oklahoman
  • OU football quarterback John Mateer discussed his approach to spring practice today (April 14) as he works on his mechanics without making major changes. His remarks came right after practice, emphasizing a balanced focus on improvement and consistency.  The Oklahoman
  • The Sooners added Louisville’s 6-10 forward Khani Rooths from the transfer portal on Monday and retained key contributor Xzayvier Brown for the 2026-27 season. Rooths has two years of eligibility and Brown, who averaged 15.3 points, is set to bolster OU’s offense.  News9
  • Oklahoma linebacker Owen Heinecke is set to appear in court on Thursday, Apr. 16 to seek an injunction for an extra season after NCAA rules limited his eligibility. His high school coach, JJ Tappana, said COVID disruptions and injuries affected his recruiting—making the ruling crucial ahead of the NFL Draft.  News9
