  • After nearly 60 years, the Christmas Store of Cleveland County is partnering with CrossPointe Church — Norman’s CrossPointe Care Center — to build its first permanent facility that will provide low-income families a place to shop for holiday essentials. CULTURE NEWS

  • KGOU won the 2025 Metro Radio Division Best of Show award at the recent OAB Outstanding Achievement Awards (its first win) and also received honors for a general news story on the Clara Luper National Sit-in Plaza dedication and for its website improvements.  KGOU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Norman Public School Board member left Monday’s meeting after the board elected Dawn Brockman as president and Dirk O’Hara as vice president (Annette Price, the current Office #3 representative, exited abruptly).  The Norman Transcript
  • Norman Public Schools celebrated a year of education by honoring teachers, staff, and community partners during its Celebration of Excellence last Friday. The event awarded titles such as Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Rookie Teacher of the Year (recognizing their daily impact).  The Norman Transcript
  • Oklahoma House lawmakers passed a bill Monday that would require struggling readers to repeat third grade and mandate extra reading support for K-3 students. The measure now goes to the Senate and will take effect in the 2027-28 school year, pending final approval.  KGOU

  • Migratory birds fly over Norman after sunset, and experts warn that bright outdoor lights confuse their routes. Scientists urge residents today to reduce unnecessary lighting to help birds (like the northern parula and yellow-throated vireo) navigate safely.  KGOU

  • Oklahoma women's basketball added former McDonald's All-American Jordan Speiser from Kansas State as its second transfer commitment on April 14. She joins a young roster that aims to replace key starters in Norman.  The Oklahoman
  • Top-ranked OU softball faces Oklahoma State today at 8 p.m. CT from Devon Park in Oklahoma City. Coach Patty Gasso's team is coming off a series win and will air the game on ESPN2 with radio coverage on The Franchise 2.  The Oklahoman
