- ➤ The Norman Lions Club carnival fundraiser returns this weekend (along James Garner Avenue in downtown Norman) in conjunction with the Norman Music Festival, with proceeds set to support eye screenings and eye care programs. The Norman Transcript

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Undergraduate Student Congress voted against making Oct. 9 the student holiday before the OU-Texas game, leaving 32,000 students without the day off. SGA leaders plan to revisit the decision at the Graduate Student Senate meeting later this week. OU Daily

- ➤ OU Softball freshman Kendall Wells was named SEC Freshman of the Week after hitting .455 with six runs, three homers and 7 RBIs on Tuesday. Her 34th home run against No. 6 Arkansas tied a school record — a milestone in her historic freshman season. News9
