CULTURE NEWS

  • The Medieval Fair of Norman celebrates its 50th year with hundreds of vendors and performers at Reaves Park south of campus. Host Rachel Hopkin of How Curious examines the fair’s blend of education, entertainment, and commerce (a project of University of Oklahoma Outreach).  KGOU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A state poll by the Oklahoma Center for Education Policy of 1,165 residents found local schools received a C grade while 71% strongly support higher teacher pay and 70% back more funding — Senate Bill 201 proposing a $2,000 raise stalled in the House.  KGOU
  • OU SGA and University Libraries experimented with 24-hour access at Bizzell Memorial Library during dead week this fall to test student turnout (555 students compared to 874 in finals week) and will review trends this spring.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma lawmakers approved House Bill 3705 that would add $25 million to the Parental Choice Tax Credit cap and now the measure awaits Gov. Kevin Stitt’s signature to support families with private school tuition.  KGOU
  • The federal government reclassified state-regulated marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III following a rule announced Apr. 23, bringing potential tax relief & new DEA registration for Oklahoma's medical marijuana businesses. State officials & industry leaders are reviewing the changes as impacts on patients appear limited.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • The OKC Thunder swept the Phoenix Suns on Monday night after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points plus Alex Caruso and Chet Holmgren provided key plays, sending the team to the second round to face the winner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets series.  The Oklahoman
  • The Sooners maintained their No. 1 status in college softball after sweeping Georgia this past weekend, finishing 46-6 with 16 Quad-1 wins tied for the nation’s best. Their unanimous ranking marks a third straight week leading the Super 16.  The Oklahoman
