BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sam's Club is remodeling its 600 stores nationwide, including 13 in Oklahoma, to launch a register free shopping experience with enhanced digital options. The renovation will add a self service scanning system and online exclusives—store closures during renovations remain uncertain.  The Oklahoman

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Emergency officials urge residents to follow flood safety guidelines as heavy rains and storms persist this spring—preparing an emergency kit and planning evacuation routes are key. The National Weather Service warns that flash floods can develop rapidly—residents should avoid flooded areas and heed local alerts until conditions improve.  News9

  • Kaleb Smith from Carl Albert High School—a senior, state swimming champion, and class valedictorian—was named Amazing Athlete by News 9 and Communication Federal Credit Union for April 28th and will attend Howard University this fall to study biology as he works toward becoming a pediatric cardiologist.  News9
  • OU softball coach Patty Gasso said she received a text from Ohio State coach Kirin Kumar proposing a Buckeyes versus Sooners game at Ohio Stadium (the team is ready to play if adjustments are made since Owen Field does not fit). She noted that this idea follows record attendance of 4,609 at Sunday's OU-Texas game in Norman.  The Oklahoman
  • OU softball coach Patty Gasso said she loves the idea of playing Texas at the Cotton Bowl after a record crowd of 4,609 watched the Sooners beat Texas in Norman, and Texas coach Mike White noted the game could help grow the sport. Administrators will review if a game, doubleheader or series at the football stadium can work & meet the necessary guidelines.  The Oklahoman
  • The OKC Thunder advanced to the NBA playoffs' second round after sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies and now await the winner of the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers series. Their series will begin on May 5-6 — though it could start on May 3-4 — and tickets will be available on Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday, April 30.  The Oklahoman
