CULTURE NEWS

  • Katherine Stevens is the sole staff member at the Jacobson House Native Art Center on 609 Chautauqua Avenue. A Kiowa Tribe member with OU degrees, she plays a key role in preserving Native heritage for the community.  The Norman Transcript

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Norman Public Schools board members Alex Ruggiers and Annette Price held a town hall on Saturday with about 25 residents to discuss board divisions, a superintendent contract, and new technology in classrooms. They urged community members to send feedback and join upcoming meetings to support students and staff.  OU Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • SEC softball tournament begins Tuesday, May 5 at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington — 15 teams will compete, and the Oklahoma Sooners are the No. 1 seed set to play at 8:00 p.m. ET Thursday against either Georgia or LSU.  The Oklahoman
  • The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association released brackets for the 2026 state playoff high school soccer games. A Norman team will compete at Northwest Classen on Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m. + additional matchups run through mid-May.  The Oklahoman
  • OKC Thunder will face the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA playoffs after both teams advanced from the first round. Analysts say Thunder holds the edge with a deeper bench, homecourt advantage, and more championship experience if key players return healthy.  The Oklahoman
  • OU women's basketball added former Virginia transfer forward Sa'Myah Smith on Saturday, May 2. Smith averaged 7.9 points last season at Virginia and joins three other transfers as part of the Sooners' portal class.  The Oklahoman
  • OU softball clinched at least a share of the SEC regular-season championship with a 4-3 win over No. 12 Texas A&M on Saturday, May 2 in College Station + freshman Kendall Wells still needs two home runs to set the NCAA single-season record.  The Oklahoman
