EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Kevin Stitt signed House Bill 1276 into law to make the school cellphone ban permanent next school year — the measure takes effect July 1 and lets districts set their own rules with exceptions only for health issues or emergencies.  OU Daily
  • OU's Miracle Mindset program helps first-generation students adjust to college by linking high schoolers with advisers and support during the enrollment process (27% of undergrads are first-generation); students like Angel Carbajal-Martinez and Nathalia Mireles-Mota credit the program with boosting their confidence on campus.  OU Daily
  • OU senior Annelise Huynh—combining cancer research and music outreach—is interning at Massachusetts General Hospital and organizing Music Outreach to bring live music to vulnerable groups, having raised funds for Oklahoma Children’s Hospital; she will apply to medical school after graduation.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma voters face State Question 832 on the June 16 ballot; it proposes gradually raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour (with increases starting Jan. 1, 2027 and cost-of-living adjustments after 2029). Voter registration ends May 22 at 5 p.m.  OU Daily
  • State lawmakers advanced a measure today to let out-of-state groups receive funds for the Choosing Childbirth program, which supports pregnant women and young children. The bill passed in the House 73–18 & now heads to the governor’s desk as lawmakers debate its impact.  KGOU

HEALTH NEWS

  • INTEGRIS Health opened a new facility in west Norman today at 2361 36th Ave NW in a ribbon cutting attended by physicians and four local chambers. Six doctors will provide primary care services including annual exams, immunizations, and well-child checks.  The Norman Transcript

  • Twelve OKC restaurants still have Mother's Day brunch reservations available for Sunday, offering options from budget-friendly to upscale.
