  • Norman was named one of the best small towns in America by Livability, which praised its high marks for health care, education and local economic growth — including benefits from the University of Oklahoma — after giving the city a 711 Quality of Life score.  The Oklahoman

  • The Oklahoman is accepting nominations for its 13th annual Top Workplaces awards until June 20, inviting employees from organizations with 35 or more staff to share feedback via a short survey. Winners will be honored in December—recognizing outstanding workplace culture in the Oklahoma region.  The Oklahoman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norman City Council will consider the Rock Creek Entertainment District phasing plan and the proposed fiscal year 2026 enterprise funds budget in a special meeting Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the council chambers — the meeting time was moved from 5:30 p.m. because several members had grade school graduations.  OU Daily
  • Oklahoma lawmakers passed a budget deal — which injects $25 million in education funding, expands teacher salary steps, and offers new college scholarships — and state officials are preparing for a potential return of screwworms following its eradication in the 1960s. Scientists at OU are testing a CopterSonde drone to improve weather forecasts — while the Seminole Nation broke ground on a new transit plaza and visitor center set to complete in 2026.  KGOU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is off probation but urgently needs funding to renovate its teaching hospital—an update critical for advancing veterinary care and safeguarding Oklahoma's agriculture. Legislative leaders released a budget proposal on Wednesday and are urged to invest further to secure the future of rural veterinary services and public health.  The Oklahoman

  • No. 2 Oklahoma Softball beat Boston University by 8 to 0 in the first round of the NCAA Norman Regional on May 16 at Love's Field after catcher Corri Hicks hit a game-winning solo home run in the fifth inning. The Sooners will face Cal at 1 p.m. today.  News9
  • For the Thunder to win Game 7 on Sunday at Paycom Center, Jalen Williams—Thunder's second All-Star—must improve his shooting after scoring 6 points and missing several key shots in Game 6. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said the team will rely on his defense and playmaking as they prepare to challenge the Nuggets at 2:30 p.m.  The Oklahoman
  • The 2025 NCAA softball tournament opens this week with the Sooners seeking a fifth title even though they are not the top seed as Texas A&M is favored and Jenni Carlson also picked Texas for its strong pitching+ hitting.
