- ➤ Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason took full responsibility for a paperwork mistake that released convicted robber Michael Sean Bodnar from the detention center in April and said his deputies are searching for him so he can return to custody and face a hearing on July 14 while new safeguards are in place. - ➤ A state agency warned residents that texts claiming unpaid traffic fines sent by scammers may steal personal and financial information — recipients should delete such messages and report them as spam. The Oklahoman
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norman Public Schools announced a partnership with the University of Central Oklahoma that lets juniors earn up to nine and seniors up to 18 college credit hours in business, pre-nursing, pre-education, and computer science—students will also have access to UCO’s academic support resources. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Amtrak will suspend the Heartland Flyer train service between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth on or before Oct. 1 if Texas does not secure its share of funding — this follows a decision by the Texas Legislature to stop its financial support. KGOU
- ➤ The White House sent a request to Congress on June 3rd (a move to cancel already appropriated funding for NPR and PBS that gives KGOU about $295,000 a year) and Congress may vote on the rescission package (by June 13th), which could affect local public media. KGOU
