  • Park on Main is hosting its first Cut-A-Thon to benefit Wigs for Kids on August 9 at 9 a.m. in the North Parking lot at 3750 W. Main St — stylists will cut hair and trucks will provide fun amenities to help children and teens facing hair loss.  The Norman Transcript

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma public radio leaders reported that stations faced layoffs and program cuts after Congress rescinded $1.1 billion in CPB funding on Saturday, August 2nd, which is expected to cost about $8 million a year. Local broadcasters have already started emergency fundraisers and are adjusting schedules—warning that the loss may slowly erode essential news and training opportunities.  News9
  • Yesterday, the Oklahoma Tax Commission denied a tax credit request for American Virtual Academy—a private online school promoted by Ryan Walters—because the school is based in Arizona and is not accredited under Oklahoma rules. Lawmakers noted the decision follows clear statutory requirements that only Oklahoma-based accredited schools qualify.  News9
