  • Senator Nikki Nice is pushing to make Juneteenth a state holiday by citing Oklahoma’s historic ties from 1866 treaties signed after the battle of Honey Springs — she is urging supporters to contact their state legislators as the effort continues, even though Juneteenth is already recognized federally.  News9
  • Oklahoma lawmakers honored late Governor George Nigh on August 3rd as a model of bipartisan leadership and called for more civility in today’s political climate. They noted his service as state representative, lieutenant governor, governor, and university president—emphasizing that respectful dialogue among officials can unite the state.  News9
  • Cleveland County Commissioners are discussing today a proposal that would let Oklahoma City house its inmates at the Cleveland County Detention Center with a rate of $68 per inmate per day plus transportation and emergency costs—officials and Norman Mayor Stephen Tyler Holman expressed concern about how inmates would be returned to Oklahoma City and the potential for overcrowding.  OU Daily
