- ➤ Joe Pal, a 23-year-old OU rugby player, was killed on March 2 after a physical altercation near Campus Corner at a parking lot between McCullough Street and Boyd Street—police reported he suffered severe head trauma and high blood alcohol levels, and no arrests have been made as the homicide investigation continues. - ➤ Murphy, Norman PD’s new K-9 detective trained to sniff out electronics, was introduced on August 29th at 9:54 a.m.—she is one of six specifically trained to detect phones, hard drives and USBs in child exploitation and internet crimes cases—and will help investigators move these cases forward. - ➤ State Auditor Cyndi Byrd reported that state agencies questioned nearly $100 million in pandemic relief funds in FY23—funds spent on items like home remodels rather than the intended services.
