EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved Baseball Facility Project 1, so L. Dale Mitchell Park will get upgrades this fall in time for the 2026 baseball season—a move that comes a season after Oklahoma baseball made its debut in the Southeastern Conference.  The Norman Transcript
  • The University of Oklahoma will launch its first public CRNA program to increase anesthesia providers and improve care in rural areas—pending final approval from the State Regents for Higher Education. The program comes as Oklahoma faces a need for about 89 CRNAs each year to fill gaps in counties without local anesthesia experts.  News9
  • Oklahoma lawmakers did not add new money for the Horizon online AP platform this fiscal year—carryover funds keep it running while they study its true cost. The program now helps 380 school districts with 26 AP courses and saves schools about $3.69 million, and legislators may request extra funds in early the 2026 session.  The Oklahoman

  • Millions of monarch butterflies migrating through Oklahoma have faced a steady decline from threats like herbicides and loss of milkweed, and the Oklahoma City Zoo has worked with local groups to improve habitat—News 9 detailed these efforts in a special that aired yesterday at 6:30 p.m.  News9
  • Researchers examined past oil and gas earthquakes in Oklahoma and found that areas like the Arbuckle formation may not be safe for large-scale carbon storage—two companies have applied for carbon wells while state lawmakers passed rules to regulate them. Officials say using lessons from past quakes will help guide safe carbon injection projects in the future.  KGOU

  • Attorney General Gentner Drummond reached a $32.1 million settlement with pharmacy benefit manager CVS Caremark after alleging the company kept rebates meant for HealthChoice that help lower state employees' health care costs - under the agreement, about $27 million will go to HealthChoice within 30 days after fees and CVS must pay extra and future rebates within 90 days.  The Oklahoman

  • OU coach Brent Venables said wide receiver Javonnie Gibson, who broke his leg in spring practice, showed good progress by joining warmups last Saturday—he is expected to return soon to boost the Sooners' offense. His steady progress in rehab may give the team a much-needed boost in upcoming games.  The Oklahoman
  • Verily StoryWorks is developing an entertainment drama series on Jim Thorpe — an Oklahoma-born Olympic star — that will span 28 episodes and begin filming in about a year. His family supports the project and will help shape the series to highlight key moments from his legendary sporting career.  News9
  • The Sooners will play Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday at 11 a.m.—their 10th game played in an NFL stadium—with this matchup marking another chapter in OU's long history of playing in professional venues.  The Oklahoman
