- ➤ Reba McEntire and Little Big Town honored The Golden Girls at the 77th Emmy Awards on Sept 14 by singing the sitcom's theme on a re-created kitchen set, and Reba confirmed her engagement to actor Rex Linn from Oklahoma. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thomas Landers, former dean of OU Gallogly College of Engineering, died at 75 today after a six-year battle with dementia. He served in the U.S. Air Force, earned degrees from Texas Tech, and helped build key college facilities—he is survived by his wife, three sons, and four grandchildren. OU Daily
- ➤ OU approved a $30 fee each semester for students in fraternities and sororities to help pay for extra staff and programs like risk management and leadership training—starting in November, the fee will be lower than many other colleges charge and students needing help can get a waiver. OU Daily

- ➤ The Oklahoma Supreme Court issued a temporary stay on the new social studies standards and stopped funding for their implementation after a lawsuit by parents, teachers and faith leaders challenged the curriculum that includes lessons on Christianity and debunked election fraud claims. - ➤ OU Health has introduced a single-port robotic thoracic surgery that uses a four-centimeter incision—offering patients less pain and faster recovery as a first in a seven-state region. Dr. Matthew Reinersman, one of 20 trained surgeons, recently performed the procedure on a patient with an autoimmune disorder and will soon meet with other surgeons to explore further uses of the new technology.
