COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norman first responders will play in a charity kickball tournament called Clash for a Cause at Reaves Park on Saturday, September 27th to raise funds for Fostering Futures that helps children in need. The family-friendly event will offer yard games, food trucks, and touch-a-truck activities — and everyone is invited to join.  News9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ryan Walters, the state schools superintendent, is rumored to resign to join an out-of-state nonprofit—he has not yet submitted his resignation—after drawing national attention for his push to add Christianity in classrooms. Two state board members have heard the rumor and will meet today to discuss the matter, setting the stage for the governor to appoint a new leader if he steps down.  The Oklahoman
  • US News and World Report ranked four Oklahoma colleges among the top 301 on Sept. 23. The University of Oklahoma in Norman led the state at 110th—up 22 spots—while Tulsa, Oklahoma State in Stillwater, and Oklahoma City University placed 158th, 198th, and 301st respectively.  The Oklahoman
  • Turning Point USA will visit OU on Oct. 16 for a campus tour—showcasing 18 right-wing speakers—to continue its schedule after co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed. OU officials said campus safety is the top priority while a math professor confirmed that Kirk booked his visit before his death.  The Oklahoman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority revealed a revised alignment for the South Extension Turnpike that now runs south through Norman between 48th and 60th avenues and moves two miles west with simpler interchanges—OTA said the change will affect about 75 homes. The northern section will open in 2032 and the southern portion in 2034 while OTA holds three open houses in Norman and Noble for impacted property owners.  OU Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • OU Health's Dr. Max Brookman explained that concussions in youth sports show signs such as headache, blurry vision, and brain fog—players with severe symptoms like repeated vomiting or loss of balance must seek emergency care. He noted that this advice is especially important for football athletes during the busy season.  News9

  • OU coach Brent Venables said he trusts Michael Hawkins Jr. to run the offense next week after starting quarterback John Mateer hurt his hand in last weekend's win over Auburn—he praised Hawkins' work ethic and progress this season.  News9
