EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ellen Buettner has been named as the new CEO of the Regional University System of Oklahoma, a group that serves over 40,000 students at six universities. She brings strong public service experience from health care and government roles and will work to raise the system's national ranking.  The Oklahoman
  • OU confirmed that the Clara Luper Department of African and African American Studies and the Schusterman Center for Judaic and Israel Studies are under routine review—triggered by a multi-step evaluation of over 300 programs—and officials stressed the departments will not close without a decision reaching the Board of Regents.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Political consultant Amber England warned that Senate Bill 1027 could make it nearly impossible for citizens to use their right to the ballot by capping petition signatures and letting the Secretary of State write the petition content. The law is on hold pending a lawsuit before the Oklahoma Supreme Court on Nov. 18—if upheld, it will also affect the open primaries initiative.  News9
  • OKC-area police launched the Blue Envelope Program on October 2 in Edmond—aimed at helping drivers with communication challenges show officers they need extra assistance during traffic stops. The program, developed with the Autism Foundation, provided blue envelopes that list required documents and explain a driver's condition for safer interactions.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Barry Switzer talked about his 1985 championship team and his respect for Brian Bosworth in a recent interview with Chris Williams, saying he would not coach college football today because the game has changed. The University of Oklahoma will honor him and his team today at the 3 p.m. game against Kent State at Owen Field to mark the 40th anniversary of that win.  News9
  • Oklahoma high school football Week 5 scores are updated with games played from Thursday to Friday, including a matchup where Jenks competed against Norman and details for other classes are released & fans follow the live updates on every score.   • OU football hosts Kent State at 3 p.m. today at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium as the Sooners, now 4-0 after wins over Auburn and Michigan, see quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. make his first start following John Mateer's hand surgery.  The Oklahoman
