BUSINESS NEWS

  • In-N-Out is set to open five restaurants soon in California, Colorado, and Tennessee at addresses in Sylmar, Longmont, Antioch, Lebanon, and Murfreesboro— but there are no plans to open a location in Oklahoma even though a Texas distribution center is nearby. The closest restaurant to Oklahoma City is in Denton, Texas, about a 2.5-hour drive.  The Oklahoman

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country star Luke Combs has teased a big announcement as OU and other universities shared cryptic posts showing their football fields, hinting at a massive 2026 stadium tour. Fan excitement grows—his Norman concert at Owen Field is set for May 9.  News9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. met with OU Daily to discuss the refreshed strategic plan and campus housing projects, noting a 31.4% freshman growth and strong increases in research funding. He explained that the university will address federal directives and review campus safety ahead of the Turning Point USA event on Oct. 16—focusing on maintaining academic dialogue and student support.  OU Daily
  • The Norman Public Schools Board of Education approved a resolution for an Office 1 election — candidates may file from Dec. 1 to 3 and the vote is set for April 7 — as current member Dirk O’Hara said he will run again. The board also changed graduation rules, adding one math credit while merging world language and computer science courses into pathway units — a change based on House Bill 3278 — to keep the total credits at 23.  OU Daily

  • Most post offices and banks in Oklahoma will close on Monday, Oct. 13 for Columbus Day—only Priority Mail Express and self-service kiosks will remain available. State agencies and most businesses will operate as usual, and customers can still use online banking options.  News9

SPORTS NEWS

  • OU wide receiver Keontez Lewis avoided serious injury after a collision with a brick wall on Oct 4 but was stretchered off the field for testing during the game against Kent State. Padding will be added to the brick area at Owen Field—details of the timing are not yet available.  The Oklahoman
  • OU quarterback John Mateer is pushing to return this week for the game against Texas after a hand surgery on September 24—his recovery is progressing faster than expected. Coach Brent Venables offered little detail about Mateer’s status during practice.  The Oklahoman
  • Several top 2026 Oklahoma high school football recruits decommitted from their college plans after coaching changes prompted them to explore new offers—players like Kaydin Jones and Trey McGlothlin now have options from various schools.  The Oklahoman
