COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wings Fall Festival & Pumpkin Patch at Wings Special Needs Community is underway through Oct. 19—visitors enjoy pumpkins, fall décor, hayrides, games, inflatables and a petting zoo on weekends with hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $8 per person or $28 for a family pack, and proceeds support services for adults with developmental disabilities.  News9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oklahoma’s newly sworn-in state superintendent Lindel Fields said his 15 month term will focus on rebuilding communication and reviewing department finances to improve student outcomes—he will hold listening tours and deploy a turnaround team to stabilize the Education Department—and he promised a strong foundation for future reforms.  OU Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • OU Turning Point USA said its Oct 16 event is moved from McCasland Field House to Lloyd Noble Center—this change gives room for over 10,000 people amid over 6,000 RSVPs and added security measures. The event, part of the This Is the Turning Point tour, will feature speakers like Russell Brand, Savannah Chrisley and Gov. Stitt.  OU Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • OU coach Brent Venables praised Texas quarterback Arch Manning on Tuesday despite his five interceptions so far. The Sooners will face Texas at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Red River Rivalry, where a strong defense is expected to test Manning’s dual-threat skills.  The Oklahoman
  • Members of OU Naval ROTC began their 28th annual Run to Dallas on Wednesday by running about 180 miles from the 50-yard line at Owen Field to deliver the game ball to the Cotton Bowl Stadium ahead of Saturday's Red River Rivalry game—ensuring at least two midshipmen were running along I-35 at all times.  The Norman Transcript
  • OU announced it will add extra padding to the brick wall at Owen Field after Receiver Keontez Lewis was injured last weekend— officials confirmed the upgrade during a Tuesday press conference. There is no set timeline for the work even as the team will face Texas in Dallas on Oct. 11.  News9
