CULTURE NEWS

  • Oklahoma will mark Indigenous Peoples Day today with events featuring tipi raisings, traditional dances and cultural displays across the state. In Norman, MAINSITE Contemporary Art hosts a celebration with wine and light snacks from 6 to 8 p.m.—and OU’s American Indian Student Association offers workshops and festivities from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.—to help residents connect with Native traditions.  The Oklahoman

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economist Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics said that while 21 states and Washington, DC are in a recession, Oklahoma is growing as local businesses build inventories and customer spending increases. He explained that weaker production in other states contrasts with strong economic activity here — a sign that our state may continue to expand.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a tough loss to Texas last Saturday, OU football will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. CT at Williams-Brice Stadium; head coach Brent Venables plans to address issues with quarterback play and the offensive line as the Sooners prepare for the game on SEC Network.  The Oklahoman
  • College football teams across Oklahoma ended Week 7 with mixed results—Oklahoma lost 23—6 to Texas in the Red River Rivalry while Oklahoma State fell 39—17 to Houston, and wins came for Central Oklahoma, East Central, Northeastern State, Oklahoma Baptist, Langston and Oklahoma Panhandle State, with Tulsa and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on bye. Teams now look ahead to future games such as Oklahoma’s trip to South Carolina at 11:45 a.m. and OSU’s homecoming against Cincinnati at 7 p.m. Saturday.  The Oklahoman
  • Two SEC teams, Missouri and Oklahoma, lost their Week 7 games as Missouri fell to Alabama — whose win moved the team to No. 2 in the rankings — and Oklahoma lost at South Carolina.  The Oklahoman
  • The Oklahoma City Thunder lost 116-101 to the Indiana Pacers in a preseason game, with injuries to Isaiah Joe and Ajay Mitchell — leaving the team with only seven available players — while Chris Youngblood scored 25 points. The team will play the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night with just two preseason games remaining.  News9
