COMMUNITY NEWS

  • OU receiver Deion Burks turned catches into donations by giving $50 per catch to support Rob’s Ranch in Purcell, where a 72-acre facility helps men facing addiction. He raised over $28,000 from his own catches and local business support — his effort also led to his recognition as a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award.  News9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, October 18th, No Kings protests were held across Oklahoma, including a Norman demonstration from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.—organizers rallied against federal enforcement tactics and health care cuts—and local agencies maintained a visible presence near the events.  News9

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA approved osimertinib after chemoradiation on Sept. 25 as the new standard for treatment in eligible patients with stage 3 EGFR-mutated lung cancer in Oklahoma. The drug tripled the time patients remained cancer-free and reduced brain metastasis risk—common side effects include rash, diarrhea and fatigue that doctors say are manageable.  News9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dylan Stewart went to the injury tent during the OU football game in Columbia—he missed part of the opening drive before returning to the field in the second quarter as the Sooners built a 7-0 lead.  The Oklahoman
  • OU football cornerback Gentry Williams left the game after injuring his shoulder against South Carolina in the first quarter (tests and x-rays were clear), and his condition is being closely monitored for recovery.  The Oklahoman
  • The OKC Thunder will begin the season on Oct. 21 with a home game against Houston that marks Opening Night and ring night for the defending champions. They will play 34 nationally telecast games + key matchups on Christmas Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day while also taking a long road trip from Mar. 17-25 and a five-game home stand from Mar. 27-April 5.  The Oklahoman
  • OU cornerback Gentry Williams suffered an apparent injury during the game against South Carolina — he was helped off the field after a key play. After an evaluation in the injury tent, he briefly returned to the sideline — but he did not reenter the game and is done for the day.  The Oklahoman
  • John Mateer began his Ray Guy Award campaign with a 40-yard punt on fourth down that pinned South Carolina at the 1-yard line and led to a safety when Markus Strong tackled Matt Fuller in the end zone. OU built a 26-7 lead late in the fourth quarter as Mateer's play shifted momentum in the game.  The Oklahoman
  • Oklahoma's defense held opponents to zero or negative yards on 46% of plays and allowed just 5 touchdowns in 6 games, marking the fewest since 1987. South Carolina will add its special teams firepower in the upcoming matchup in Norman — OU leads the nation in total defense.  News9
