GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials warned that nearly a month into the shutdown, food assistance programs serving 600,000 to 700,000 residents and local beef producers began feeling the economic fallout on October 26th at 9:00 a.m. Lawmakers and industry leaders said Congress must act soon to restore federal funds and support domestic processing—raising concerns over increased foreign beef imports.  News9

  • Despite dislocating his thumb on Saturday, Chet Holmgren led the OKC Thunder to a 117-100 win over Atlanta with 31 points, 12 rebounds (and six 3 pointers) in 27 minutes. The team will play the Mavericks today at 7:30 p.m. in Dallas.  The Oklahoman
  • William Byron won the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday and advanced to the NASCAR Championship 4 — Kyle Larson earned the final spot on points while Norman native Christopher Bell was eliminated from the playoffs.   • The No. 18 Sooners will host the No. 14 Volunteers in Week 10 of the season on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available on resale sites—prices start at $246 on VividSeats with similar options on StubHub and SeatGeek.  The Oklahoman
  • OU football coach Brent Venables said on his Sunday coach’s show that his team looked better but mistakes on key plays led to an Ole Miss loss—he noted that close games demand flawless play.
