EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Superintendent Lindel Fields announced Monday that Oklahoma public schools will hold spring assessments as normal, putting a plan to overhaul state testing on hold. He said his administration will discuss new assessment options in the coming weeks—so any meaningful changes will take time.  KGOU
  • Oklahoma leaders stressed that both college and trade schools are needed for our future as students follow paths that fit their skills and goals—trade programs let many graduate debt-free and get into work quickly while colleges train doctors and engineers. A report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center showed that enrollment in public two-year vocational schools increased 20% since spring 2020, demonstrating that hard work in any field is smart work.  The Oklahoman
  • Mercer Martin and Josephine Nicholson are running for OU Student Government Association president and vice president on Thursday and Friday with a campaign called SPIRIT. They plan to boost campus life by increasing voter engagement and launching programs—like offering meal points at local restaurants and tutoring with the Boys and Girls Club—to strengthen ties between students and the Norman community.  OU Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Andrew Adams explained that hurricanes form over the Gulf with warm water, moist air, and calm winds — and their tropical remnants can bring heavy rains into Oklahoma. He warned that even though these storms weaken as they move inland — residents should remain alert to potential flooding.  News9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kevin Stitt and PatientRightsAdvocate launched the Oklahoma Hospital Price Finder Tool—giving Oklahomans free access to compare hospital prices and dispute surprise medical bills. HEALTH NEWS

  • Oklahoma lawmakers must find new funding for the 988 Lifeline as federal funds run out next June; mental health advocates urge a small monthly phone line tax to raise the $5.7 million needed to keep local crisis services running — call volumes have surged nearly 200% in two years. Without a new plan, calls will likely be routed to national centers, which could delay timely support for those in need.  KGOU

SPORTS NEWS

  • OU punter Grayson Miller was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week after averaging 50.8 yards per punt on Saturday against Ole Miss — his four punts totaled 203 yards with no touchbacks. Head coach Brent Venables confirmed that he maintained constant communication with Mateer to help him manage pressure and improve timing.  The Oklahoman
  • Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin on Monday responded to OU coach Brent Venables’ claim that his team was better after a 34-26 loss to the Rebels by pointing out that the Sooners recorded more yards, 21 first downs, and 87 offensive plays (despite tough weather conditions).
