ECONOMY NEWS

  • Utility companies in Oklahoma said that new cost recovery measures for data centers will likely add about $10 per month to residential bills. PSO and OG&E plan to use separate rates for large users—regulators stress that careful cost allocation is needed to protect everyday customers.  The Oklahoman

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A strong geomagnetic storm caused bright northern lights to appear over much of the state on Tuesday, and meteorologists say residents may see the colors again tonight as the storm continues—though it is expected to weaken later. Photos showed the auroras over areas from the panhandle to the University of Oklahoma campus.  KGOU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oklahoma Human Services has received federal approval to issue partial SNAP benefits after a federal shutdown paused payments earlier this month—families now get some relief automatically as they can check their balances on the ConnectEBT app.  News9
  • At its Tuesday evening meeting, the Undergraduate Student Congress passed measures to delay officer compensation changes until after the next election and to bar election commission members from endorsing SGA candidates. The Congress also appointed new associates, launched a campus cleanliness survey running through Dec. 3, and adopted a resolution recognizing Veterans Day on Nov. 11.  OU Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oklahoma nonprofits warned that if Congress does not extend ACA funding, some families' health insurance premiums could double and a 29% hike could force up to 100,000 people to drop coverage—farmers, self-employed and entrepreneurs are among those at risk. The warning comes as ACA tax credits are set to expire at the end of the year, which could raise costs for those using the marketplace.  News9

  • OU softball signed six new players in its top-rated 2026 class on Wednesday, November 12th as part of National Signing Day. Coach Patty Gasso said the recruits, including Keegan Baker, Ki'ele Ho-Ching, Jerrell Mailo, Malaya Majam-Finch, EK Smith, and Payton Westra, will boost the team's strength when they join the program in Norman.  The Oklahoman
  • The Sooners and Longhorns moved up one spot in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings released Tuesday night — Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M and Alabama still hold the top four spots. Fans now watch closely as teams prepare for the final playoff bracket selection later in the season.  News9
  • CFP selection committee chair Mack Rhoades said on Tuesday that OU quarterback John Mateer’s hand injury was factored into ranking the Sooners at No.11. Mateer, recovering after hand surgery (he completed 59.7% of his passes for 734 yards in a win over Tennessee), is expected to continue improving as the team prepares to face No.4 Alabama at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday.  The Oklahoman
