COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Norman and community partners broke ground on a new affordable four-bedroom, single-family home at 521 Leaning Elm St. earlier this month. The project is a joint effort — funded by the city’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Norman 2015 Community Housing Development Organization and Norman Affordable Housing Corporation.  The Norman Transcript
  • The Islamic Society of Norman filed an application with the city to expand the Masjid An-nur Mosque at 420 E. Lindsey St. by adding parking and a youth center that will include an indoor basketball court—Norman’s Department of Planning and Community Development will host a discussion on the proposal at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.  OU Daily

  • After a long shutdown, holiday travel has resumed at OKC Will Rogers International Airport, which flies to 25 cities and has faster security lines—officials advise travelers to apply early for a REAL ID with a gold star or a valid passport for international trips and to arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures.  The Oklahoman

SPORTS NEWS

  • OU football is working to balance its offense after several wins relied mostly on defense and special teams—Coach Brent Venables said the team will need more explosive passing and careful management of running back injuries as they prepare to face Missouri at home—thus aiming to boost their playoff chances.  The Oklahoman
  • After beating Alabama 23—21, Oklahoma football is expected to climb to No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which will drop Alabama to No. 9 and push Notre Dame to No. 10. The Sooners must win upcoming games to secure the playoff spot they need.  The Oklahoman
