EDUCATION NEWS

  • An annual report from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education shows that 91.5% of public college graduates remained in Oklahoma one year after graduating and 83.5% were still employed in state five years later—a slight decline from last year. The study also found that earning higher degrees leads to increased salaries and that graduates in nursing, engineering and teaching play a key role in boosting the local economy.  The Oklahoman
  • Mississippi raised reading scores by using phonics instruction and strict third-grade tests, and its fourth graders now rank in the top 10 in reading. A survey of Oklahoma teachers shows 75% of students struggle with reading – prompting Governor Stitt and interim Superintendent Fields to form a turnaround team to improve education.  News9

  • OU football's starting center, Jake Maikkula, was downgraded to doubtful on Thursday and may miss Saturday's game against LSU — the team already has slim depth after Troy Everett's season-ending knee injury and other players are set to miss play.  The Oklahoman
