COMMUNITY NEWS

  • OU Daily calls for support on Giving Tuesday as donors can make one-time or recurring contributions and order merchandise from a pop-up store—with orders for shirts, sweats, and themed table covers accepted through Tuesday, Dec 9—to help fund a new mirrorless camera after the old unit failed during a fall road football game. The effort aims to sustain local student media and strengthen community news coverage.  OU Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OU is reviewing an appeal from junior psychology student Samantha Fulnecky who claims she received a zero on an essay for citing the Bible, alleging religious discrimination. The university placed the graduate instructor on leave—appointing a full-time professor to lead the course while it investigates the claim.  OU Daily
  • The Oklahoma State Department of Education released the 2024-25 report cards on Monday that gave public schools a D for academic achievement and a C for learning growth—stricter test scoring lowered overall grades even as a few schools moved off the F list. Only 26% of students met grade-level expectations in reading and math, and lawmakers plan to remove absenteeism from evaluations next school year.  The Oklahoman

  • Norman City Council purchased more than three acres of Griffin Hospital land in late November for $74,290 to build a permanent homeless shelter. The council will involve local community members and businesses in planning and plans to finalize bond language for an April vote while project funding remains pending.  KGOU
