COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A memorial service to honor local interfaith leader Shannon Warren will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Christian Life Center at St. Luke's Methodist Church — an interfaith prayer vigil is scheduled Jan. 18 at the Raindrop Turkish House.  The Oklahoman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Oklahoma will cancel in-person classes and reschedule final exams on Dec. 19 due to the College Football Playoff matchup with Alabama—Norman Public Schools will also suspend classes amid expected traffic and road closures across town.  News9
  • OU Faculty Senate is challenging a new policy that grants paid suspension to any instructor after a student complaint (faculty learned about it Monday and met with administration) and will vote on an official statement Monday to clarify academic freedom and grade appeals.  OU Daily
  • Boeing awarded a $125,000 grant to Norman Public Schools to enhance the Oklahoma Aviation Academy, which uses a STEM and arts curriculum & real-world flight training. The academy, in partnership with OU and local organizations, will use the funds to improve student experiences at the Max Westheimer Airport.  OU Daily

  • Gov Kevin Stitt hosted an entrepreneurship panel yesterday in Texas with founders of Poppi, SchooLinks and the Museum of Ice Cream to explore ways to prepare Americans for a changing economy. He said he will bring these ideas back to boost entrepreneurial opportunities in Oklahoma.  The Oklahoman

  • OU’s official online store at Soonersports.com released its 2025 College Football Playoff apparel collection featuring T-shirts, hoodies, hats and more ahead of the Dec. 19 game vs Alabama & offers gear for all fans. Fans should order early to ensure timely delivery before game day.  News9

  • OU and OSU renew their Bedlam rivalry today at Paycom Center at 3 p.m. — analysts highlight OU’s high-scoring lineup and OSU’s balanced attack while expecting a competitive game with key plays from standout freshman Aaliyah Chavez.  The Oklahoman
  • Acyn Hansen led the Longhorns to a 20-14 win over Washington, clinching the Class 2A-I state title on Saturday (21 of 30 passes, 183 passing yards, 116 rushing yards).  The Oklahoman
  • OU kicker Tate Sandell won the Lou Groza Award Friday night after making 23 of 24 field goal attempts and setting a record with his last 23 kicks. OU will host Alabama for a kickoff game on Friday, Dec. 19 at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.  The Oklahoman

  • The Southeastern Conference released OU’s 2026 football schedule, which will feature 6 home games at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and 5 road games including the annual Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl. The season will begin in early September next fall.  News9
