Opening Reception for "Beyond Words" an Exhibition Featuring Nancy Junkin

The Howell Gallery is pleased to announce an off-site exhibition of paintings by Nancy Junkin, opening with an artist reception on Thursday, November 5th from 5 PM to 7 PM at BancFirst Tower Underground Gallery. Nancy Junkin is best known for figurative and abstract paintings defined by a looseness of expression, line, and color. Her abstracts begin with a movement of line, not a plan and she builds each surface in layers, with tools that range from Japanese brushes to kitchen utensils. "In my studio, anything that can make a mark is fair game," she says. Junkin came to painting midlife by way of a recurring dream in which she wandered her house and found an unfamiliar room. A dream interpretation book read it as the sign of “a quiet spirit waiting to be developed,” and she followed that dream: painting daily, taking classes and workshops, and studying with a range of artists. “Painting is my way of expressing a love for life that is even better than a dream,” she says.
