EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kevin Stitt signed Senate Bill 1778 at John Rex Charter Elementary School to change how third-graders are promoted, requiring retention if they score below reading benchmarks unless exempt, starting in the 2027-28 school year — new supports including literacy coaches will be implemented to boost early reading skills. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Stitt vetoed a bill Monday to extend the advisory council on Indian Education's sunset date until July 1 (its last meeting on April 15 was canceled) as he deemed it redundant and dormant. Lawmakers must override his decision by session end if they want the council to continue. KGOU

- ➤ Norman announced a down payment assistance program for eligible homebuyers in Old Silk Stocking, First Courthouse, and Original Townsite (offering up to $14,999) to help low-income buyers.
