GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norman announced that parts of James Garner Avenue between Gray and Main will be closed beginning Sept. 22 for 30 days during the Gray Street expansion project — drivers should follow detour signs.  OU Daily
  • Oklahoma lawmakers introduced bills to honor conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10, by proposing that Oct. 14 be named Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day and every public college create a memorial plaza. One bill requires universities to submit a detailed plaza plan by March 1 before construction the following year — the proposals will be considered when the Legislature reconvenes on Feb. 2.  The Oklahoman

  • LiveWell OU hosted an event yesterday to raise mental health awareness and launch TimelyCare, a new 24/7 virtual mental health service for OU students. The event in the Oklahoma Memorial Union courtyard offered free succulents and customizable drinks—helping students access care outside regular hours.  OU Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former OU coach Bob Stoops is set to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, marking the first time an OU coach receives this honor. He will be celebrated on New Year’s Day during the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal in Pasadena — joining an exclusive group of inductees.  The Oklahoman
  • OU wide receiver Keontez Lewis is listed as probable after leaving last Saturday’s win with concussion concerns — three offensive linemen and defensive end Marvin Jones, Jr. are questionable ahead of the Auburn game. Auburn’s running back Damari Alston is probable and cornerback Jay Crawford is doubtful, which could impact the matchup.  News9
  • Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze praised OU quarterback John Mateer for his strong play and leadership on crucial downs, noting he helped drive a nation-leading total offense ahead of his team's SEC opener. OU head coach Brent Venables said that Auburn's receivers—Singleton and Coleman—are explosive playmakers who will test the Sooners in their upcoming game.  News9
